Paris Set Me Free - Paris Photo Quiz 17 - 'Snake Eyes Watching You'

TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD'S MOST FASCINATING CITY!

Quiz No. 17: 'Snake Eyes Watching You'

Question: "Where is she, and what's going on?

An intriguing image, if ever there was one. A woman whose eyes seem to be banded, a broken stave, a fallen crown. This can only mean one thing: someone, somewhere was trying to make a point. But what point?
You may never have explicitely noticed this rather chilling statue before, but I promise you, you have seen it, and maybe many hundreds of times. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that she's probably one of the most photographed statues in the whole city (amongst a few others, admittedly), and maybe the world. Oh yes! But where? That's the first challenge.
The second is to have a go at guessing what all these symbols might mean, as shown above. To be honest, either you know or you don't, but it would be fascinating to hear what you think, and to see how close you can get.
If you get the place right then I'll give you some more info so that you can get some ideas for the rest, ok?!
DON'T FORGET: Two or three enthusiastic contributors will receive a couple of wonderful, signed Paris Set Me Free bookmarks by post for their efforts. And if you send me a funny pic back showing the bookmarks in use I'll publish them here and link back to a place of your choice. Look - it happened to Paris Paul, and to Priscilla from Prissy Mag, and it could happen to you too!

Quiz No. 16: 'Railing Against The Pricks' ~ Answer & Winner!
And the winner is...
UMM, WE DON'T HAVE ONE YET! So there's everything to play for people!
So never mind - Quiz No.16 hasn't been 'out there' for long, and I'd say it might be trickier than most. You can always... guess! There's no harm in trying and you might well be right. Look closely at some of those 'pricks' on the horizon and imagine what they might / could / would / should be. We're in Paris, remember ;-D
And think view points - think high up, and then think... not quite the ones I already know about - know any others?

Quiz No. 16: 'Railing Against The Pricks'

Question: "Spot Two Famous Buildings & Where I Am

There are viewpoints in this city, and then there are viewpoints. I mean, there are the obvious ones: the steps of Sacré Coeur, the Notre Dame towers, the roof of Galeries Lafayette... and there are the lesser known.
This probably falls into the latter category, as befits our tricky sneaky quiz you know and hate love. Definitely one for the connoisseurs then, well, the latter part of the question above: where exactly did I take this pic.
As to the two famous buildings, well, just open your eyes, very very wide, and you should be able to see them, or at least guess - go on, have a go, it's free to try, and you'll make a lot of people extremely happy :-D
You should also say where you think the famous structures you've identified actually are, if you don't mind. Looking forward to your ideas and suggestions. And don't forget, I enjoy reading your comments even if you haven't a clue or just want to hazard a wild guess or think someone else has already got it. The more the merrier - let me know you're out there :-D

Quiz No. 15: 'Oh My Goodness... It's Huge!' ~ Answer & Winner!
And the winner is... David Kendall who's a musician from Paris. David - send me your address and the bookmarks will be on their way :-D
David said:
"Okay, I'm thinking 29 Avenue Rapp
from the sculptor Jules Livrotte, but
I'm a bit of a cheat since my wife is a researcher and had it sussed in a few minutes. Apparently he used his wife as a model for the top piece, and it's a sort of 'Garden of Eden' motif..so maybe the fertility symbol would fit...but maybe your minds are just dirty! Perhaps it's modeled after a plantain and two kiwi fruits.. So, do I win some bookmarks?!"
And added:
"..forgot to mention, it's around the corner from the Tour Eiffel...how's that for specificity?"
That'll do fine David. The architect was called Jules Aimé Lavirotte, and apparently, according to Wikipedia, has no fewer than nine examples of his work in or around the 7th arrondissement in Paris, so maybe we'll have to organise an architecture walk in that part of town soon on the >Paris If You Please Meet Up group!
The precise answer to the quiz, then, would be that it's a stunning art nouveau doorway from Lavirotte in Avenue Rapp, just around the corner from the Eiffel Tower, as David says. And what's so huge? Well, the huge down-pointing penis which so many don't see until it's, umm, pointed out :-D Thanks for playing and enjoy your prize David :-D
