Paris Photo Quiz No.24 ~ 'Buzz Buzz - Who Goes There?'

Test Your Paris Knowledge
~ 'Buzz Buzz - Who's There?' ~

TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD'S MOST FASCINATING CITY!

Quiz No. 23: 'Buzz Buzz! - Who's There?'

Question: "Who do you think lives here? Really?!

==>  COMMENT & WIN!  <==
This is a funny one that I just discovered the other day. And if I've ever claimed to offer you some of the strangest Paris quirks out there, which I probably have, then this certainly fits the bill.
We're in Montmartre, on the exclusive Avenue Junot, which some claim to be one of the swankiest in the whole city. It's elegant, I guess, but far from being my favourite street in Paris. Whatever the case, that's where we are, and if you'll forgive the very inappropriately unartistic photo above, this is where the curiosity lies, right in front of our eyes.
This is a private property, with signs and fancy digicodes to make sure you get the idea. Look, there's even a 'R├ęgisseur', which I had to look up and who can be a director or organiser or administrator depending on where you are. Here I suppose it's someone who manages all the residents or tenants or whoever lives here. Judging by that long list of names, there's quite a few of them lurking up at the end of that pathway behind the solidly spiked gate which I've never ever seen open or close, much less anyone go in or out, in all of the many times I've been by that way. It's almost as though there were a ghost town up there or something...
I'm going to give you another hint to see if you can at least have a guess at what the quirk might be. And here it is, the picture on the right. This should lead you towards just what is so strange about this particular abode.
You'll probably need just one more picture to totally convince yourself of the weirdness, but that I'll supply later, once a few people have had a go. In the meantime you can click on the picture to blow it up a little, although that might not help too much. Good luck, and let your artistic imaginations run away with you - that's probably the best tactic ;-D
SPECIAL NOTES:
1) Try to answer in your head before looking at any other comments.
2) Leave a message with your ideas or saying how you did.
3) Feel free to guess and tell us you tried anyway - the more the merrier!
4) Chat a bit, don't just leave a word or two - that's no fun to read! :-S

DON'T FORGET: There are some beautiful, signed Paris Set Me Free bookmarks for some of the most enthusiastic contributors. And if you feel like sending me a picture or two back showing the bookmarks in use I'll publish them here and link back to a place of your choice. Look - it happened to Paris Paul, and to Priscilla from Prissy Mag, and it could happen to you too!

Quiz No. 23: 'This is... a Healthy House! ~ Answer & Winner!
And the winner is...
UMM, we dont' quite have one yet, and we're still waiting for a few guesses.
So don't be shy; read the quiz by clicking on the words 'Maison Salubre' here, I'll give you a clue if you're needing help - don't worry about that odd window on the left or the strange configuration of the highest windows; look at the 'door'. You should be thinking, hmm, as the title says... there's something not quite right about that one! Good luck and let's hear your ideas :-D

Paris Photo Quiz No.23 ~ 'This is... a Healthy House!'

Test Your Paris Knowledge
~ 'This is... a Healthy House!' ~

TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD'S MOST FASCINATING CITY!

Quiz No. 23: 'This is... a Healthy House!'

Question: "OK, so what's so 'healthy' about it then?

==>  COMMENT & WIN!  <==
Here you can see a beautiful plaque, which I've heard called enamel but which looks earthenware to me, on the wall of a Parisian building, visible from the street. The plaque's not in very good condition, both in this original picture and in reality, although my excuses for the photo are that I did take the shot at night, handheld, in gloomy conditions, and if you saw the original before I cleaned it up you'd probably say, err, what plaque?
It's also very rare; I know of only four remaining in the whole of the city. A dying species in other words. Not too many people actually seem to know their whereabouts (the plaques' I mean), and probably don't care, but they're right there on the walls of Paris for anyone to see 24/7, so obviously plenty of people must be aware of them at least.
I find it truly sad to see them slowly disappearing though, because they send us back more than a century, to a time when it was the fashion to silently brag to your neighbours all about your residence's mod-cons! Well OK, it was probably the house builder who put them up trying to attract new business, or the landlord or person selling the appartments, but anyway... Here comes the quiz: Under the words 'Maison Salubre', which literally means 'healthy' or possibly 'hygienic' or 'sanitary' house, there is the reason why it is supposed to be so healthy. I've helpfully chopped it off for you and will show you the full story in due course. What does the rest of the plaque say and what does it mean?
SPECIAL NOTES:
1) Try to answer before looking at any previous comments.
2) Leave a message with your ideas or saying how you did.
3) Leave a message saying you tried anyway - and feel free to guess!
4) Chat a bit, don't just leave a word or two - that's no fun to read! :-D

UMM, we dont' quite have one yet, although Marilyn has more or less got the 'quirk'! Still a couple of details needed though, so there's everything to play for people!
I'll give you a clue if you're needing help - don't worry about that odd window on the left or the strange configuration of the highest windows; look at the 'door'. Paris Photo Quiz No.22 ~ 'Something's Not.. Quite.. Right'

Test Your Paris Knowledge
~ Something's Not.. Quite.. Right ~

TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD'S MOST FASCINATING CITY!

Quiz No. 22: 'Something's Not.. Quite.. Right'

Question: "What's weird about this Classic Paris building?

==>  COMMENT & WIN!  <==
A charming, if not particularly 'Haussmannian' Parisian building, I'm sure you'll agree. Except that... hmm. Well, you might be getting to know me by now I guess! In which case you'll probably be mouthing the words 'but not everything is quite as it seems' to yourself as you gaze reflectively at the picture.
And you'd be right, of course. Not everything is quite what it seems with this 'charming, if not particularly 'Haussmannian' Parisian building. But what's the quirk? Well that's what I'm asking you! What's the weird architectural characteristic of this building which is practically unique in the city, (with one or two possible exceptions, but none exactly like this one).
I can't wait to see what you come up with as explanations, and to be honest, there's a straightforward answer which on reflection I'll give you half a point for, but to get the Full Monty you need to delve deeper. Much much deeper...
Look closely at the picture and the elements within it. You may not be able to guess what the answer is just by looking at it, but you might be able to spot a couple of things which don't look quite right, and they may, just possibly, lead you to work out the enigma of this glorious Paris quirk just the way I like 'em. Good luck.
SPECIAL NOTE: Try to answer the question before looking at any previous comments, in case someone has already got the answer. And then leave a message to say how you did! It doesn't matter if you didn't get it right - it's the taking part that matters, and I won't know you took part if you don't leave a message! Pure guesses are just as welcome too. I look forward to reading you (but do give a bit of background to how you know, or don't know, the answers), and thanks for playing!

UMM, we dont' quite have one yet! So there's everything to play for people
I'm sure some of you are being modest, because this is actually quite a well-known Parisian place, especially for photos between couples.
Let us know if you've taken your soppy romantic photo next to this, indicating... what? in your very own language. Come on, I'm sure some of you have :-D
